When it comes to Royalty-Free images vs Royalty-Bearing, we keep things simple.

Royalty-Bearing: If you plan to use an image more than 10,000 times in print, there is a flat rate Royalty-Bearing fee of 10% no matter what the image, editorial or otherwise.

Royalty-Free: If you plan to use an image digitally on the internet, you are free to do so without limit. Unlimited online.

Rights

The creator of the image retains the copyright of the image; however, you are purchasing a license to use it. You can use it several ways, perhaps as part of annual statement, an advertising campaign or educational lesson plan.
